Brunch is quite possibly my favorite thing. It combines breakfast food (always a winner), a chance to catch up with friends, and, if you’re doing it right, bottomless mimosas. Last week I discovered a great resource for Angelinos from Finer Things LA: a list of bottomless mimosa brunches all over town. Yesterday my fashionista BFF Jamie of Paint The Gown Red and I headed over to Tart for brunch, and it did not disappoint.
Tart hangs its little red hat in the heart of LA’s Fairfax district, right across the street from the Farmer’s Market. While we waited for our outdoor table to be ready, Jamie and I explored the Farmer’s Market for a bit. The Farmer’s Market has been a staple in my life since long before the Grove was around, so I’m always happy when I have an excuse to go explore again. After punishing ourselves with all the smells and sights the Farmer’s Market had to offer, we showed up at Tart completely ravenous.
You know you’re in LA when you spot Retta from Parks and Recreation and Yvette Nicole Brown from Community having brunch together a few tables away. After a brief fan-girl moment, I was able to settle in and chow down. Tart has a super kitschy farmhouse vibe to it, with gingham napkins, meticulously placed tool decor, and of course, giant mason jars.
We slowly made our way through brioche french toast with berries and cream, cheese grits and bacon (not pictured; I ate it too quickly!), and Tart’s BTA Benedict. Yes, that’s right: bacon, tomato and avocado. NOM.
What’s the story with the pool, you ask? Well, as it turns out, Tart is connected to a sister hotel: Farmer’s Daughter. After a few of those bottomless mimosas (ok, I lost count), Jamie and I discovered one of Tart’s house rules: if you jump in the Farmer’s Daughter pool with your clothes and shoes on, you get half off your meal. We were already in the midst of planning a sneaky pool caper after a few hours baking in the hot sun, so this was obviously a no-brainer. We jumped right in.
We left Tart happily buzzed, completely stuffed, and a few dollars richer! Tart even promised we’d get our names on their Wet and Wild Pool Warriors plaque. Our team name? Ray-Jay the Jet Plane. For more on our BBF brunch adventure, check out Jamie’s post at Paint The Gown Red!
LA brunch fans, Tart is definitely a must-taste. Who knows, you might run into one of your favorite comedians (and exchange tweets with!), make a new friend, or somehow get tipsy enough to take the Tart pool plunge.
Alright foodies, ‘fess up: what’s your favorite brunch spot in LA?
